  • Struggle to read the messages on your smartphone?
  • Do images appear less vibrant than they used to?

Growing old is a privilege.

But when it comes to eye health, aging can bring on several ocular conditions and diseases like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

Vision impairment decreases one's ability to perform activities of daily living and increases the risk for depression.

Whether you need reading glasses, bifocals, post-cataract surgery care, or eye disease co-management, we've got you covered!

At EyeTX - Vineyard-Blanco in Far North Central, we believe that prevention is the best medicine. That’s why annual eye exams are so important for seniors. Detecting eye conditions early on can help prevent or delay vision loss, keeping your vision clearer for longer. Some serious eye conditions don’t present noticeable symptoms until vision loss has occurred. Fortunately, these can be detected in their early stages by your eye care professional during your eye exam.

If an eye disease is diagnosed, we’ll create a custom treatment plan and monitor your condition closely to ensure the best outcome.

Senior Vision FAQs

Can presbyopia be corrected?

Presbyopia, age-related farsightedness, affects your eyes’ ability to focus on near objects. You may become aware of presbyopia once you begin holding books and newspapers at arm’s length to be able to read them. This condition is a natural part of the aging process and affects virtually all adults in their 40s. Our eye doctors will diagnose and help correct your presbyopia so you can see clearly again. They'll provide you with corrective glasses and/or contact lenses, such as monovision and multifcoals.

What are the most common vision problems in the elderly?

The most common causes of vision loss among the elderly are age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

  • Age-related macular degeneration is characterized by the loss of central vision.
  • Glaucoma results in visual field loss.
  • Cataracts cause blurred vision and faded colors among the elderly.
  • Diabetic retinopathy is characterized by blurred vision and floaters, among other symptoms.
  • Other conditions include dry or watery eyes and floaters.

Because many of these conditions may initially be asymptomatic, it's critical that elderly patients undergo routine eye exams. The earlier these conditions are detected, the better the treatment outcome.

Can macular degeneration be prevented?

Although there’s no sure-fire method for preventing eye disease, certain lifestyle habits can put the odds in your favor. To help ensure healthy vision for a lifetime, wear high-quality sunglasses whenever outdoors, quit smoking if you do, eat eye-healthy foods, and ask your optometrist about taking AREDS supplements. Most importantly, regular visits with your eye doctor are crucial to keeping your vision sharp throughout your golden years.

Yesterday, my son had somehow scratched his eye and was sent home from school in extreme pain. We im... mediately visited one clinic that had told us by phone that they dealt with this issue, but after charging us the fee, their doctor came into the exam room and 60 seconds later told us they didn't have the special orange fluid or equipment to do the necessary eye exam. He said we needed to take him to an emergency room, and then to a specialist he knew. Walking out with the sealed letter he gave us that he instructed us to give to the emergency room, which apparently contained the name of his specialist, my son and I were back to square one, him in pain and me out money with nothing to show for it. Not wanting to spend a fortune on an emergency room visit and then a specialist, my wife and I got on the phone and found EyeTX. Never having been there, we read the reviews - which were good - so we called, explained the situation, and the very kind receptionist assured us they did this service and made an appointment for one hour later. Ninety minutes later, my son had received a thorough, professional examination, his pain was gone, and we were picking up the prescription they'd given us. And all for a VERY reasonable fee. I don't write many reviews, but I wanted to write this one because Dr. Anderson at this EyeTX location was the best physician I've ever seen in the United States. Compassionate, kind, and thoroughly professional. In short, he's the doctor ALL doctors should aspire to be. Naturally, I recommend this place, this staff, and this doctor highly, and we will be lifelong patrons.

We had a great experience. I made an appointment with the Vineyard-Blanco Team EyeTX Vision Center b... ecause my eye doctor no longer accepted my current eye insurance. Therefore, I did some research online and liked the reviews that I saw for Dr.Green and made an appointment through Zodoc. I found the staff at this clinic to be quick and courteous with check-in and Dr.Green to be easy to talk to and he seemed to connect well with my kids. Lastly, the frame selection was very good. I found some frames that I want for myself and am planning to make an appointment in the near future because I’m over due for an exam and new frames.

Best optometrist office. I have been seeing Dr. Anderson for decades. He really cares about his pa... tients and does a thorough exam. The front desk staff is professional and efficient. I love the new OptoMap technology that provide high definition photos without the need for eye dilation drops and that whole after effect.
